When it comes to planting a garden, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of different plants that you can grow depending on your climate and the type of garden you want. However, you still have to be careful when you decide to grow some plants. Depending on the type of plant, you might not be able to grow it properly. Some plants are better left to the professionals and not to the weekend warriors.

A lot of people figure they can grow a big section of wheat and create their own flour and other wheat-based products. However, this is something you do not want to try. Not only does it take acres and acres of wheat to yield anything of significance, but you also have to contend will drying it and milling it and refining it yourself. It’s just not something you want to get into. It might seem like a good idea at first, but it’s best to let this one go.

There are two words that describe carrots better than any others: bug fodder! That’s right; all sorts of bugs just love to come in and nibble on your carrots, and that’s not even taking into consideration wild rabbits, groundhogs and other animals. Plus, to make matters worse, carrots don’t like to grow in normal soil. You probably haven’t tilled your garden enough for the carrot to actually penetrate the soil, so you’ll end up with short, stubby carrots. It’s really just a waste of space.

Asparagus is one of the most temperamental plants out there. It doesn’t want to grow very well, regardless of the conditions. Have you ever wondered why it costs so much at the store, compared to things like onions and potatoes? It’s because the best asparagus is grown under factory-like conditions, wherein it can be properly looked after. Unless your thumb is legitimately green, you should avoid attempting to grow this vegetable.

For celery, it’s not that it’s overly difficult to grow this root vegetable. Most people can grow celery well enough. It’s that it has to be picked quickly or else it will go bad. Also, it’s one of those vegetables you have to wash a lot, and there is a chance that bugs are going to tear through it. At the end of the day, it’s just better to go pay a buck for a bundle at the grocery store. You can get great celery for a great price.

With potatoes, all you have to do is put one in the ground and there’s a good chance that you’ll get some more potatoes out of it. However, they’re going to spread everywhere. They’re going to take up a lot of room; they’re going to get trampled on, ate by bugs, and they’re going to cause you more trouble than they’re worth. Potatoes are another inexpensive item that’s just better to buy instead of grow — unless you have a lot of room and know when to pick them.

Try to avoid growing these vegetables if you don’t want the hassle that comes with it. There are plenty of other plants you can select to grow if you really want a garden. If you do insist on growing these items, make sure you find out more information about them.
