Gardening is a great thing to do alone, but if you bring your whole family out into the dirt, it can be a wonderful bonding experience. Your children will be learning something about how plants grow and they will also be taught a lesson about being self sufficient and being able to grow their own food. It also does not hurt to have a few extra hands around to pull those weeds. This article will give you some great ideas on how you can get your children interested in getting outside in the garden to grow a plot that you can all be proud of.

Keep gardening easy and simple; do not grow plants that are difficult to grow or that will not flourish in your area. You want to pick things that your children can be proud of when it gets big, blooms, or starts to bear fruit. You will see the reward in involving your children when they realize that their efforts have been rewarded by positive results!

Buy some tools that are meant for children to use in the garden. It will make them feel like they are a part of it and will be easier for them to use. If they have their own tools they will want to help, treat it like a new toy!

Take your kids to the greenhouse or let them choose the seeds that you are going to be planting. They will more likely to help if they pick their favorite veggie or flower. They will want to see how it comes from a seed to end up on their plate.

Give your kids things to do in the garden, if you have more than one child you can rotate the tasks that they do. This teaches them responsibility and gets them out in the great outdoors and out in front of the computer, television, or video games.

Put pretty statues or ornaments in the garden, it will make it a more magical place for your kids to spend their time. You never know it might end up their new play area.

Always pick out fertilizer and pesticides that will not hurt your children if they get into it. You should always explain the danger of these products to your kids even if they are not around.

Gardening can be a great way for your family to start spending more time together. There are so many different advantages to it that it is a no brainer when you are trying to decide to do it or not. No matter what kind of garden you are growing your kids will benefit greatly by learning how to grow plants, that it is a responsibility to take care of them, how to be self sufficient, and how plants come from a seed on a scientific level.
