How Mirrors Transform a Room

28 Nov

A mirror in your home, wherever it happens to be, can instantly change all sorts of dynamics in the space it occupies, making your home an even more pleasurable place to be and somewhere you can’t wait to get back to.

Firstly of course, it creates an illusion of more space. The larger the mirror, the more effective that illusion will be. A floor to ceiling mirror can sometimes be a little disorientating; allowing your mind to believe that there’s far more to the room beyond the mirror. This effect is used very well in restaurants to make the place appear much bigger than it actually is.  You don’t need to go for enormous mirrors,  just a few small to medium ones will certainly help make a room feel bigger.   Having two opposite eachother on oposing walls is a nice way of achieving that effect.

A mirror opens a room out to being more inviting to spend time in. Even a simple one only a meter wide and 60cm high can be effective. By having a decorative mirror, you will add an extra touch to your home. There are so many different types, from framed mirrors to art deco mirrors. The added decor can give you another desirable output of helping you achieve a certain ‘look’, whether that’s contemporary or traditional, and all the sub-sets of those styles.  Adding tall plants close to where your mirrors are improves the look even further, giving a feeling that the room is full of fresh foliage.

How to Breathe New Life into you Holiday Decorations

28 Nov

It’s that time of year again – time to decorate for the holidays! Your old decorations might be a little out of style or dingy looking, however. Since new decorations can be pricey and take up even more room in your attic, let’s take a look at some ways to make the most of your old items.

Fresh Paint

It’s amazing what a little paint can do! Often, certain colors are in style for the holidays. For example, this year, brighter greens are all the rage, while deeper greens and burgundy colors look a little outdated. Certainly, you should use the colors that match your home, but if you want to give your items a fresh look, pick up some spray paint or craft paint and give your items a fresh coat. You can even paint colored items a solid color for a class artistic look. And remember, silver and gold are always in style. Spray painting items silver or gold and arranging them with leftover ball ornaments or garland can even make items that aren’t traditionally “holiday” feel like the holidays; for example, one year, I spray-painted decorative birdhouses that were on sale gold and wrapped greens and lights around them to create beautiful centerpieces that had a holiday field even though birdhouses are more traditionally used in spring.

Create a Wreath

Holiday garland, old tree ornaments, and other items that look a little outdated on their own can easily become part of a beautiful holiday wreath. Green or twig wreaths are available at craft stores for under $10, and from there, simply use wire or a glue gun to attach other items that you already have in the attic. You can even spray items with paint first, like I mentioned in the above tip, to create a cohesive professional-looking look.

Where to Buy Kids Furniture

27 Nov

Before any furniture store, particularly those offering kids’ furniture, start their marketing campaign they need to actually know their market. It sounds obvious, but not too many furniture stores truly act as if they accept this as true. Customers always want to know what’s in it for them as well as their kids when purchasing furniture and those stores that truly answer this question can dramatically improve their bottom line and these are the stores to shop from.

There are all kinds of youth furnishings stores out there. Recently an area of great change has been the options furniture stores have in advertising and marketing. Many invest time and money in learning how to digitally advertise and drive business to their stores. Consumers see these ads and can purchase online but most still love face-to-face conversations, so they want to physically see and test the furniture. The majority of consumers today pre-shop online before stepping foot to an actual brick and mortar store to make the final purchasing decision.

Eventually, the consumer walks into a store. There are those stores in which you walk in and quickly realize that their styles are everywhere. There is nothing unique about the lines they carry. Then, there are those which deliver furniture without set-up. There are also those stores who charge you cherry and mahogany prices for MDF and pine, charge you for stapled drawer joints as if they were French or English dovetailed. These are not the kids’ furniture stores to purchase from. You want a drawer constructed well so that it can withstand years of opening and closing.

You want to shop in stores where customers turn to for kids’ furniture that “just naturally” fits their lifestyle and their children’s lifestyles. These stores answer these questions in a conversational way that makes the customers feel understood by a knowledgeable friend. And above all, these stores will answer the customer’s burning question: What’s in it for me?

Top Three Energy Saving Appliances

27 Nov

With prices going up everybody is keen to get more energy efficient appliances and gizmos, but what three type of devices can save you most?

Nowadays all kinds of electrical products are sold to us as being more energy efficient. While this is true we are also all consuming more electricity than ever before! There are certain products that we do not want to do without, but which can be energy hogs. Fortunately as well as being the worst offenders there are some solutions too.

Televisions

The average size of screen has gone through the roof. While once it would be common for a household only to have a single 14” television screen, multiple large flat panel televisions and computers are now the norm in Britain’s increasingly tech hungry homes. Some of the advances that have been made in television technology have really come at the cost of drastically increased power consumption. Plasma TV’s in particular drink the juice like it’s going out of fashion.

Some new TVs are much better than others. It is possible to still have a big high definition screen and to save money on electricity. For instance LED-backlit TVs are the latest thing, using far less power than either plasma screens or traditional LED models while still delivering picture quality that would be undreamed of a decade ago.

There are certain features which can make a new television much more energy efficient. One of the most basic, but effective is screen blanking. This is where the set detects when the screen has been left idle and cuts power to the screen. Another nifty feature to look out for are ambient light sensors. These detect how bright it is in your living room and adjust the picture brightness to be the perfect match. This can save anything up to 50% in terms of energy consumption.

Saving Money on your Removable Home Project

26 Nov

There are plenty of reasons to shudder from the thought of building a removable home. In Queensland (QLD), Australia, there are plenty of home owners who pick the removable variety over the regular kinds and do not face any issues. One of the most incredible benefits is the possibility of saving so much more on the cost of building a home. However, an indecisive build process can lead to more expenses at a later stage.

In the excitement of owning a new home you can end up making hasty decisions and regretting them later. Changing decisions midway is very common but if you are looking to save money on removable homes in QLD, then you’d better follow some simple mantras!

Note Everything

Remember to make a note of the smallest thing that comes to your mind when you decide on the home’s design. If you’d want a view of the ocean from your dining room, make a note of it. If you’d like a massive tree outside your bedroom window, put it down. If you want the garage to be accessible from the living room, you’ll want a door there. If you want the kitchen and dining room to be far from the bedrooms, you need to write it down.

Basically, whatever your preferences might be, it will be difficult to incorporate them once the entire removable home’s frame is prepared and set. You need to make a note of these things beforehand and keep them handy when speaking to the designer or architect. Changing layouts once they are made can cost anywhere between a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, depending on how massive a deviation you desire.

Pick your Fixtures

Review everything you are getting for your home and make sure that everything, that is bought, adheres to that list. Once your removable home gets into that production-line scenario, there is no stopping the stuff you got from going on. Once they go on, you need to know that changing them will cost you more, because the done-deed has to be undone.
