Quartz Carpet Flooring

February 17th, 2012 Home

A spectacular spiral staircase provides a dramatic design element in this mid-century remodel in SW Portland. The project – a private residence – included an existing spiral staircase with 1970’s era shag carpet –the owners who had meticulously renovated most other aspects of this mid-century home were stumped when it came to solutions for their dated staircase. The flooring problem seems to be a big one when it comes to design.

After going over dozens of options the owners decided to go with Quartz carpet.

The open-plan layout used a spiral staircase to create a sense of space and enhance the stunning wooded views from the floor to ceiling window which stretches across two floors. The staircases have black railings and handrails and our clients wanted a modern, seamless, uncluttered finish – after an onsite consultation we decided upon a light white color to compliment the staircase colors.

The project was installed in just one day, on budget and both clients and designers were extremely satisfied with the finished look.

QuartzCarpet is a mixture of natural and synthetic aggregates. The natural stones are bound in a see through resin that provides a decorative and durable floor finish. We are finding rising popularity in the product because of its versatility. When we finished this project we were all amazed at how good it looked in the home, but its durability is what’s most impressive. To the touch it feels pleasantly warm and similar to carpet but its wear is more comparable to ceramic tiles.

The only downsides to the product are that the pores can collect dust… just like any other surface. The good thing is though, that Quartz Carpet can be cleaned with a vacuum or damp mop. Its ability to breath actually creates many major upsides. Traditional concrete breathes but can collect moisture (especially in the great North West) when carpet and/or tile are added to the mix the result can create a musty –moldy-mildewy smell that you’re always wondering where it comes from. Quartz Carpet creates solutions to this problem because it is designed to address these issues.

The customer was happy on our follow up visit. It was a great opportunity to see how the product was received by the everyday users. Quartz Carpet is an easy solution to offices or commercial settings, but we were excited to find equal love for it in residential settings. We are definitely going to push this product in all settings. When we have collaborated with designers they have generally been excited about what the product offers.
