The array of sofa shapes you can buy from the shops today almost makes it harder to choose. There are so many shapes and the traditional three-seaters with an armchair can still be found, but are by no means the norm.
One shape that has become really popular in the last decade is the corner sofa. Corner sofas are great for making a room feel bigger as you can push them right into the back of a room and have lots of room for a rug and space for the children to play on the floor.
It’s a good idea to measure up the space you have available before you set your heart on a sofa though. Nothing looks worse than an oversized sofa in the room that’s too small for it – you run the risk of your living room looking like a furniture store rather than a space to rest and relax.
Recliner sofas are also very popular now – but again you’ll have to check the dimensions (when fully reclined) to make sure that you won’t be tripping over the footrests if the rest of the family is relaxing in your living room. You could also get a recliner sofa with a manual or electric powered recline. Electric recliners are a bit more expensive but if you are prepared to wait for a furniture sale, you’ll probably be able to pick up a bargain.
Another sofa to consider is a multi-function one – some sofa beds are really comfortable now – both as sofas and beds. And, of course, it provides extra space for any overnight guests that you have staying over. Again watch out for a sofa bed sale before you buy one.
